ARC Innovator Title:
Who is the nonprofit partner?
Safer Foundation (Safer) is one of the United States’ largest nonprofit social impact organizations focused exclusively on human capital development for people with arrest and conviction records.
Since 1972 Safer has helped people with records by reducing barriers to employment and providing services that support their clients’ ability to successfully find, retain and advance employment. Their evidence-based programs are the cornerstones of their service delivery system, which includes job preparedness, job placement and job retention services.
Safer is also a go-to source for best practices in what works in the field of reentry, providing organizations across the United States training and technical assistance on employment issues related to people with arrest or conviction records.
Safer also operates two community corrections facilities on behalf of the Illinois Department of Corrections. These Adult Transition Centers (ATCs) provide qualified residents with six to 24 months left on their sentence the opportunity to gradually transition to the community. Residents receive assessment and treatment services and are given highly structured programs that can lead to employment pre- and post-release.
